RELIT's Facebook Page

Link to RELIT's Facebook Page: www.ir.pe/relit

RELIT´s Facebook Page have six months online and I mentioned before that is not necessarily looking for create new information, but to offer the information already available online and promote discussions. There was no other page like this in Peru.

RELIT’ page already considered that in the blogosphere exists the Red Literaria del Sureste (México) and Red Nacional de Estudiantes de Literatura-REDNEL[i] (Colombia), who are very actives. REDNEL is based in Bogota but they also have different ‘branches’ in other cities with their own respective blogs, like Santanderes[ii], Cali, etc. REDNEL became really fast an importat that is now legally constituted, and receives founds from other organizations including the Colombian Government.

Going back to RELIT´s Page: after six months we have almost 4 thousand fans who are part of the page; they interact, value and comment the new we post. But the most important part is that this space (like others too) brings the debate to the social network space. With the experience of the Page we show that this is possible to make.

Every time RELIT´s page post a new, also tries to link with other literary agent on Facebook. For example is we inform that Editoria Mesa Redonda has published a book, we also include a link to their Page on Facebook. This is common practice with the hypertext that now is also used in the social networks.

In this case we see how a poetry workshop by Karina Valcarcel is posted:

Linking Karina’s profile allows her to know that she is mentioned and get in touch any possible person that is interested in her workshop. But still, Facebook Pages are still not active as blogs are.

Reasons? Probably because Facebook is not static and there is not so much time to follow an specifically information.

As we said before, the Page includes statistics:

By the last time we revised that information (May 11, 2010), the page shows us that last week there were more interactions than this one. They show us that most of the people who participated were women and the average age were 18-24 and 24-34.

Also offered us information about how many fans growing every week by sex and age. As well, which cities are the ones who are following us more. Lima is the first one, then Madrid and Santiago de Chile. Fans have increased constantly but the image show that there were more increasing moments than others.

----

The average activity of RELIT’s Page is about posting two news per day and we try to be constant. But, how serious can we take a Facebook page?

That was the same question I made myself when this idea started. As we see in the statistics, we have fans from many ages, but also got the attention of literary writers and critics who are in Facebook. That means, that it may be bringing important people and have an influence.

Here we have two well-known university professor: Rocío Silva Santisteban is mentioned about her article ‘John Beverley in Peru’. Her colleague, professor Camilo Fernández, congratulates for the article.

This is a normal situation that can happens in the Faculty Club but now is also possible in the Web 2.0. Is the first intent in Peruvian Facebook to create a virtual space about Peruvian literature and the results are positive. People with participate respecting them: until now we haven’t had to eliminated any offensive comment. As well as other Peruvian Cultural Pages in Facebook , it looks that people start to find a new experience with those space.
